Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva appears set to move to Real Madrid as a free agent, with the deal edging closer to completion.
The 31-year-old Portuguese international, whose contract with Manchester City expires at the end of June, has been the subject of interest from several Spanish clubs.
However, recent developments point strongly toward the Bernabéu.
Real Madrid have now reportedly sent an official proposal to Silva and his representatives, understood to include a contract running until June 2028 with the option of an additional year. Sources close to the negotiations indicate that Silva is ready and eager to accept the move, having paused discussions with other interested parties like Barcelona and Atlético Madrid following direct contact from Real Madrid.
José Mourinho, who was announced as the new head coach on Thursday, is said to have personally reached out to the player and views him as a valuable addition to the squad. Silva’s experience, technical quality, work rate, and leadership have made him an attractive option for Real Madrid as they look to add depth and know-how to their midfield.
A player who has won multiple Premier League titles and other major honors during his time at City, he brings versatility and a winning mentality that could complement younger talents already at the club.
Nothing has been officially announced yet, but multiple sources say the deal is highly likely to go through sooner rather than later, with both sides confident an agreement can be finalized potentially once the current international commitments, including the FIFA World Cup, are addressed.
Silva signed with City on July 1, 2017 from French side AS Monaco for a reported fee of £43 million (€50 million). He has played 460 games for City across all competitions, scoring 76 goals and providing 75 assists, winning 19 major trophies consisting of six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup.
