Charlotte FC have reached an agreement to sign French winger Allan Saint-Maximin as a free agent, with the deal completed on a three-year contract.
The 29-year-old has undergone his medical in London and is set to join Major League Soccer’s Charlotte FC as a Designated Player. He will arrive following a short spell with Ligue 1 side RC Lens.
Saint-Maximin, known for his pace and dribbling ability, spent time at Newcastle United earlier in his career before moves to Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Mexico. His brief return to France with Lens ends as he heads to North Carolina to replace departing attacker Wilfried Zaha.
The signing bolsters Charlotte FC’s attacking options ahead of the MLS season. As one of the club’s Designated Players, Saint-Maximin will not count against the league’s salary cap in the same way as other roster players.
A formal announcement from the club is expected in the coming days.
