Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is set to sign a new contract extension this year, complete with a pay rise, with the deal expected to be finalized just days after the North Londoners clinched their first Premier League title in 22 years on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Reports indicate that Arsenal’s decision to renew Arteta’s contract had already been finalized internally back in February, with both sides fully aligned on continuing their long-term project together.

According to Fabrizio Romano, formal talks are scheduled to take place after the UEFA Champions League final in the summer. This move reflects the club’s strong stability and growing confidence in Arteta’s leadership as he has transformed both the squad’s performance and the overall culture at the club.

The former Arsenal midfielder was appointed in December 2019, arriving from Manchester City where he had served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant. His current contract renewed in September 2024 is set to expire at the end of the 2026/2027 season in June 2027.

Records to his name

Arteta has managed 329 matches for Arsenal across all competitions (figures as of recent reports), recording 199 victories, 61 draws and 69 defeats — an overall win rate of approximately 60.5 percent, the highest of any manager in the club’s history.

He set an Arsenal record for the most league wins in a single season with 28 victories during the 2023-24 campaign, when the team finished with 89 points. He also achieved another club milestone by securing 42 wins across all competitions in a single season, surpassing the previous record of 41 held by Arsène Wenger.

Arteta holds the distinction of being the quickest Arsenal manager to reach 100 Premier League victories. He has also won more games in his first 200 matches in charge than any other manager in the club’s history.

On the pitch, he has established a formidable edge over domestic rivals, becoming the first manager in Premier League history to go five consecutive league matches unbeaten against Pep Guardiola. He is also the first Arsenal boss to win three consecutive away league games against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and four consecutive league matches against Manchester United.

His consistency has been recognized individually too, with eight Premier League Manager of the Month awards to his name. Arteta is the first former Premier League player to win the title as a manager, and he made an immediate impact by lifting the FA Cup in his debut 2019-20 season — making him the first person to win the FA Cup with Arsenal as both captain and manager.
