Real Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that first-team manager Álvaro Arbeloa has left the club by mutual consent, ending his short stint in charge of the senior squad.

The exit follows a difficult season where the Spanish club failed to win any major silverware for a second straight year. Arbeloa took over from Xabi Alonso in January but found it hard to turn things around amid squad tensions and poor league form.

Even with the tough season, Real Madrid published a statement praising Arbeloa for his decades of dedication. They commended his integrity, calling him a perfect professional as both a player and a coach.

“Real Madrid is deeply grateful to Álvaro Arbeloa, who throughout his career at the club, from the time he joined our academy, has always demonstrated loyalty, commitment, and professionalism. His persona is a true example of the values of our club.” The statement said.

The board pointed out his deep ties to Madrid, which started when he joined the youth system as a boy. They added that he always showed immense loyalty and passion for the shirt.

The statement also noted that the former defender embodies everything the club stands for. Real Madrid made sure to emphasize that he will always be part of the club’s family.

“Real Madrid, which will always be his home, wishes Álvaro Arbeloa and his entire family the best of luck in this new chapter of their lives.” It added.

His departure comes during major leadership changes at the Santiago Bernabéu. President Florentino Pérez won re-election on Sunday after promising voters and fans a complete overhaul of the football department.

The club plans to appoint a new manager quickly to prepare for next season, with former boss José Mourinho heavily tipped to return.
