Real Madrid have reached an agreement with Bernardo Silva to sign the Portuguese midfielder on a free transfer from Manchester City, according to sources familiar with the deal.
The 31-year-old is set to join Madrid on a two-year contract until June 2028, with the club holding an option for a further 12 months. Sources close to the negotiations confirm the deal has been closed, paving the way for an official announcement in the coming days.
Silva is expected to undergo a medical and be formally presented by Real Madrid shortly. We reported earlier that Silva’s move to the Bernabéu was imminent.
Real Madrid’s move gained momentum with the return of José Mourinho as manager. The Portuguese coach personally pushed for the signing, viewing Silva as an ideal addition to strengthen midfield depth alongside players like Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde.
Barcelona and Atlético Madrid had shown strong interest in the experienced player, with reports suggesting Silva was close to other La Liga options at points. However, Real Madrid’s late entry and Mourinho’s involvement proved decisive, beating their domestic rivals to the player.
Silva who has won multiple Premier League titles and other major honors during his time at City, brings versatility and a winning mentality that could complement younger talents already at the club.
Silva signed with City on July 1, 2017 from French side AS Monaco for a reported fee of £43 million (€50 million). He has played 460 games for City across all competitions, scoring 76 goals and providing 75 assists, winning 19 major trophies consisting of six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup.
