Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially announced the resigning of Mexican striker Raúl Jiménez on a free transfer from Fulham for two years.
The 35-year-old forward completed his medical after club officials traveled to Mexico to secure the agreement. The contract keeps Jiménez at Molineux until 2028, with an optional one-year extension included in the terms.
The club said in a statement that Jiménez will also be “reunited with his beloved number nine shirt after the club’s current nine, Adam Armstrong, was happy to vacate the number upon hearing of Jiménez’s return.”
Wolves executive chairman Nathan Shi said: “Being able to bring Raúl back to Wolves is a truly special moment for everyone connected with this football club.”
Shi described the striker as “…not only one of the finest strikers to ever pull on our gold and black shirt, but he is a player who embodies everything that defines Wolves.”
The veteran attacker returns to a club where he previously scored 57 goals in 166 appearances between 2018 and 2023. He became a free agent following the expiration of his contract at Fulham on June 30, 2026, where he registered 31 goals across 115 matches over three seasons. Reports indicate that while Jiménez attracted interest from Major League Soccer (MLS) franchises, he ultimately prioritized a return to European football.
Head coach Rob Edwards said: “…this is not just an emotional signing. This is a signing because we really believe that he’s the right man to be able to help us achieve our aims, so we’re delighted to have him in.”
Meanwhile, Wolves technical director Matt Jackson credited chairman Shi for getting the deal done to beat other clubs that were interested in Jiménez.
“Nathan deserves huge credit for getting this deal over the line as there were other offers on the table for Raúl to take, but Nathan understands how much of a hero Raúl is to the supporters, and he was determined to do everything possible to bring him back to Molineux.”
The signing forms part of a major squad rebuild for Wolves following their relegation from the Premier League after finishing bottom of the table last season. Jiménez becomes the club’s second high-profile free agent acquisition of the summer window, following the arrival of former Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier on Tuesday.
The Midlands club will compete in the Championship during the upcoming campaign for the first time since the 2017–18 season. Jiménez is currently preparing for the upcoming World Cup tournament with his country, Mexico, where the co-hosts will face South Africa in their opening group stage match on Thursday.
