Florentino Pérez has secured another term as the president of Real Madrid following Sunday’s election, extending his reign at one of the most prominent institutions in global football until 2030.

According to the results released by the Real Madrid Electoral Board, 100% of the in-person and postal were votes counted, and Pérez won the elections for President and Board of Directors of Real Madrid after obtaining 21,741 votes, representing 65%. His contender Enrique Riquelme obtained 11,814 votes, or 35%, the Electoral Board added.

Unlike past elections since 2006 where Pérez often ran unopposed, Sunday’s poll drew significant attention as he faced a genuine challenger in Enrique Riquelme. However, the club’s voting members opted for continuity.

In his victory speech, Pérez, 79, said:

“We have won the elections and we are going to continue working to keep winning titles. We won at every polling station and obtained the second-best result in the history of Real Madrid elections. We also achieved the best result in 2004. It is an extraordinary result. And I must tell you that it could have been even better because nearly a thousand postal votes, which were certified by a notary, were invalidated due to procedural issues that we will appeal, because we believe we are right.”

He expressed his deep gratitude to the fanbase for their participation and conduct throughout the process.

“You have demonstrated your commitment and loyalty to the club. Real Madrid has won.  Real Madrid won today. We have set an example for the world of democracy, transparency, and coexistence. We have shown that we are one big family, that we love Real Madrid, and that we are ready for the future.”

Pérez then shifted his focus to the future, laying out his grand vision for the club’s infrastructure, star-studded squad, and the return of José Mourinho.

“We will continue to be proud of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the best stadium in the world. Proud to have the best players in the world, proud that one of the best coaches in the world, a Madridista like José Mourinho, is returning. And have no doubt. With me as president, Real Madrid has been, is, and always will be for its members.”

The election followed a difficult sporting season in which Real Madrid failed to win major trophies, prompting Pérez to call a new vote and seek a renewed mandate. Throughout the campaign, he defended his record and emphasized continuity in the club’s long-term sporting and financial strategy.

Since taking over in 2000 and returning for a second stint in 2009, Pérez’s legacy has been defined by massive commercial expansion, the historic modernization of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, and his signature “Galácticos” policy of signing the world’s biggest football stars.

Real Madrid has amassed 37 official trophies during his presidency.
