Real Madrid are no longer expected to pursue Manchester City midfielder Rodri this summer, with the club shifting focus following progress on a deal for his teammate Bernardo Silva, multiple media reports suggest.
President Florentino Pérez does not view Rodri as a priority target at this stage, according to reports from Spain. The Ballon d’Or winner remains under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2027, and any decision on his future now rests largely with the player himself.
Manchester City have a new contract offer on the table for Rodri, who can choose to extend his stay or run down his deal and depart as a free agent in 2027. The 29-year-old has previously spoken of his focus on the ongoing World Cup and has not indicated an immediate desire to force a move.
Real Madrid’s interest in Rodri had been widely reported earlier, but recent developments appear to have cooled those plans. The club is instead closing in on experienced Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, who is set to leave Manchester City as free agent this summer.
Rodri, a key figure for both City and Spain, has been one of Europe’s top defensive midfielders in recent seasons. His next steps will be closely watched once the World Cup concludes.
Rodri joined City on July 4, 2019 from Atlético Madrid for a then club-record fee of £62.8 million (€70 million). The defensive midfielder has made 298 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 27 goals and providing 30 assists, helping the club win 11 major titles, including 4 Premier Leagues, 2 EFL Cups, 1 FA Cup, 1 UEFA Champions League, 1 UEFA Super Cup, 1 FIFA Club World Cup, and 1 Community Shield.
