Wolverhampton Wanderers have agreed a deal in principle to appoint Portuguese coach Paulo César Silva Peixoto as their new head coach, according to reports.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that a verbal agreement is now in place with Peixoto to take over at Molineux. The interest was also reported earlier by Portuguese outlet O Jogo.

Peixoto, 46, has been in charge of Primeira Liga side Gil Vicente since early March 2025. In the 2025/26 season, he guided the club to 13 wins, 11 draws and 10 defeats in 34 league matches, collecting 50 points at an average of 1.47 points per game and finishing sixth in the table.

He is viewed as one of Portugal’s most promising young managers.

The appointment would mark the end of Rob Edwards’ tenure as Wolves head coach. Edwards took charge in November 2025 but was unable to prevent the club’s relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2025/26 season.

No official confirmation or contract details have yet been released by the club.

Wolves, who returned to the Championship after eight years in the top flight, are now preparing for life in the second tier with Peixoto expected to lead the rebuild.
