Michael Carrick has reached a broad agreement with Manchester United to become their permanent head coach.
Carrick assumed interim duties in January 2026 after Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, delivering 10 wins in 15 games and securing Champions League qualification.
The expected two-year deal with an extension option reflects club hierarchy confidence in his leadership, with an announcement possibly timed before the season finale.
Sky Sports reports that a full agreement could be reached before the final home game of the season, against Nottingham Forest on Sunday May 16, 2026.
During his press conference on Friday, Carrick said “The future for me is going to be decided pretty soon,” Carrick told the media.
“We knew that was going to be towards the end of the season, if not the end of the season, so nothing’s changed. There’s no big swing on that. That is what it is, you know. Obviously, whatever’s beyond that is pretty close around the corner anyway.” He added.
